Patriots Might Offer Tom Brady 50 Million Salary

The Patriots are going to do their best to keep Tom Brady.

NFL Network reports that the Patriots are willing to offer in excess of $50 million a year to keep their beloved signal caller, who they believe has at least year or two left in the tank.

For the first time in his 20-year tenure with the team, the 42-year-old quarterback is set to plunge into the untested waters of free agency. Brady has made it clear he wants to keep playing, but for which team remains a mystery.

“I still have more to prove,” he wrote in a long Instagram post. It was just one of many opaque messages this offseason.

Patriots owner Robert Kraft wants Brady to remain with the team, but NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport cites the quarterback’s frustrations with the offense this past season as a potential hindrance for his return.

“He wants to see the team spend on some weapons” and ultimately wants to be with “a talented team that could win now,” Rapoport said.

According to Spotrac, Brady earned $23 million in 2019 and stands to earn at least $30 million on the crowded quarterback free-agent market. His list of potential suitors would be lengthy if the Patriots cannot reach an agreement by March 18.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported on Sunday that the Raiders are “poised to pursue” Brady, who was recently photographed having what appeared to be a friendly chat with Raiders owner Mark Davis at UFC 246. A day later, he told Westwood One radio that he is “open-minded” about leaving New England.
